ARTEMIS PROJECT
CONVERTING A STORAGE SPACE INTO A STUDIO APARTMENT
ARTEMIS PROJECT
Design: Ar03412 studio, Eirini Kontopoulou
Photography: Nikos Alexopoulos
The ARTEMIS project is about the convertion of an ex-storage space into a studio apartment. The building is located at the East suburbs of Attica in a seaside area.
The apartment was used as a storage space to the above house, but the view from the front windows and the access to the garden led to the need in creating a fully independant apartment for short term rent.
The apartment is placed on the ground floor but the half house is immersed in the earth, therefore the key issue that arrises is the management of natural light. The studio is an open plan, apart from a block where auxiliary uses are placed. The block is painted in a dark beige color, so as to maximize the depth of the room. On contrary, the space in front is painted white so as to allow maximum light diffusion from windows in front to the darker inland rooms. Finally, a colored ceiling reflects the color of the floor and seems to float over the walls.
The colors and materials that are used aim to create warmth and intimacy, by turning this space into a beautiful cozy apartment.
