The STUDIOLOFT project is about the tsansformation of a shop into a house. The space, located in the heart of Athens, is developed on three levels. A key concern of the overall synthesis is apart from the usual functional units, the addition of a workspace.
The main concern of the configuration, apart from the living spaces that any conventional house would have, is the creation of an office - workplace. Thus, although the main idea of the design is based in linear development, the living room and the office space are integrated and separated from the kitchen with a sliding opening. So the space follows a linear direction and the office and the living room are unified and separated from the kitchen with a sliding door. Simultaneously, the staircase defines a zone, where all the secondary spaces of the house are plased, namely the bathroom and the access to the basement. This placement enhances the linearity of the plan. In the first floor is situated the bedroom, in order to ensure maximum privacy.
In the ground floor, the main issue is the management of natural light. Thus, although the facade from the point of a specific height consists of openings to ensure light diffusion, a shading system is placed on the facade with a sliding mechanism and offers the space the necessary darkness at the prefered hours. The materials that are used, mostly brick and metal surfaces, give an industrial identity to the space, on the other hand these materials are combined with wood and warm colors, enhancing thus the familiarity.
